View Full Version : Popup to make guests register VB 3 Gamma
smiffy 8th December 2003, 12:20 PM Here is a little template modification i put togeter to make guests register as i was a little fed up with people leaching the bandwidth and not contributing to our forums, i know its annoying but it works, as where we normally get only a few registrations a day we now get 10 times more.
http://www.internetmag.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=3884 to see the modification in action, i am no genius with vb but this is my crude attempt to get it to work, hope you like it.
I will add a text file later when i get chance for you to download, until then you can grab the code from the link.
Enjoy

insanctus 8th December 2003, 01:00 PM I would never join a site that did that, but I know some find this usefull.
I tryed it on an old forum and ticked alot regs off who signed out daily.
smiffy 8th December 2003, 02:03 PM btw if someone can clean up the code for me as i have not a clue how really about the vbulleting system it would help a lot as i have gone about it in a odd way i know but its the only way i could get the popup to work.
The section i would like edited is the showthread part as i am sure there is a better way than i have done it. Just did not know the terminology for vbulletin.

Floris 8th December 2003, 03:03 PM Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your work, good job!
Unfortn. I wouldn't register on a site that has popups like these. Sorry!
I rather have 'guests can't view threads until they registered', turned on.
Tony 8th December 2003, 03:16 PM A popup will scare people away, and especially when you HAVE to register. Shouldn't pressure potential members.
But anyway, nice work. :)
Neeto 8th December 2003, 05:02 PM I don't even get a popup. I use firebird which blocks just about any annoying popup out there. It must be that all the bad popups use similar code, and you are using that code that the bad popups use? lol
Anyway, goodluck with the mod.
Apoco 8th December 2003, 05:30 PM thanks for releasing this!
omgli3k 9th December 2003, 02:15 AM I notice on your forums:

Someone is giving away PAID styles for free. I do not think this is legal.

Thanks for the hack though.

Thank you for noticing this.
The web site and the user have been reported to piracy@vbulletin.com and they will look further into this.
We do not tolerate piracy.
Madhouse 9th December 2003, 03:03 AM Lol. looks like it was already shut down...
Floris 9th December 2003, 03:10 AM How are you linked to that web site?
I have that thread downloaded to my hard drive and the administrator there seemed to like that it was uploaded somewhere.
Please explain yourself before I think that is your web site.
Floris 9th December 2003, 03:18 AM You said 'on this site you see it in action' and 'normally we only get a few members, but now a lot more'. .. there is a user paul (admin on that site) who posted this kind of hack there too, recently. I think this is you.
I have contacted jelsoft about that web site and they are looking into it.
oh
you are banned from this web site.

In repsonse to your post
I leave the running of our board to Moderators as our site is purely for fun and it is administrated by Bill most of the time and if there are any complaints i take a look, anyway i have removed that thread one that slipped my attention. I have kept a copy of the thread for if and when anyone decides to contact us for further information.
BTW Floris could not make head nor tails of what you are tryng to say in your last couple of posts about user paul and you are banned etc maybe you could clear up my confusion and translate your last 2 posts into better gramatical order. Whos banned ????
