I use the default vbulletin style mostly because that saves me upgrade problems, and security is a high requirement, but we have removed the graphics and use plain custom main css colors to make it unique.
We're thinking about introducing custom styles to spice it up for the community members who keep bitching about not having a graphical style :bunny:
How many do you have installed, and up to how many shoudl i use max?

I have 5 installed. They are all the same but with colour differences. I prefer it this way to having radically different styles as it helps to establish a certain look and feel and help to build your online brand.
But I also think it is important to give users the ability to customise things like colour so they can feel it is their board.
Also, I have a rather different nav bar from the average vB layout, so I have a stock nav bar in one of my styles for users who prefer it.

I only use one. Well, I should say that only one is available publicly. I have a few ones that I test out behind the scenes.

I have only 1 style on my board. The main reason is that I like to know what everybody see's on the board. That way f there is a problem with the template, everyone (including myself) gets it, so I can fix it ASAP.

I usually have 1-3 styles on my board. I try to keep the number low to save time when upgrading.

I use the following style system on mine.
vBulletin (deault-unmodified)--Not viewable to public.
vBulletin (cloned)--Default coloring view with modified templates.
---mytheme colorized my way. Have 1 color working on 3 more.
That way I can revert to my default until I can get the templates updated on doing the upgrades. Since all I have to do on mythemes is change the parent to the unmodified one.
So all together 4-5 themes planned.

26 styles, 23 of which are for affiliate scheme partners, allowing us to co-brand the forum.

I have 2 installed. Like Webmist, I have the default and a cloned one for people who like the darker colored themes. I kept the default simply because not everyone enjoys black. Even though updating maybe a bit more difficult, I think the happiness giving the user options gets, outweighs the difficulties.
