View Full Version : New forum for style discussions?
darnoldy 3rd May 2005, 01:26 AM Floris-
Is it your intention that this also become a place to discuss style-making techniques/tips and strategies?
If I have created a style that I wish to share, how do I get it out of my forum in a form that I can upload in another--how do I package it?

TruthElixirX 3rd May 2005, 02:05 AM To submit you're style read this guide here:
Guide (http://www.vbulletin-style.com/showthread.php?t=2)
darnoldy 3rd May 2005, 03:55 AM I had read that--I understand that part.
But what am I submitting? How do I get the templates and CSS out of my forum, and then what do I do with them and the images and such? Do I zip 'em or what?
ManagerJosh 3rd May 2005, 04:02 AM You basically export the xml files of that template out and it spits out what you need to share them with us here :)
Floris 3rd May 2005, 06:40 PM We're indeed discussing to add another forum regarding style-techniques and such.
Admin Control Panel > Styles & Templates > Download/Upload Styles > Select the style you want to export and give it a filename, ending with .xml and click the 'and changes in this and all parent styles'. Save it to your hard drive and put it in a new directory named as your style, inside that dir download the images that your style uses.
Then .zip up that directory and submit it to vbulletin.com where we will review it.
Thank you for making a nice suggestion and for making a style to share with all of us. If you need more help feel free to ask and we'll do our best.

okay: export style into new folder/directory, drop in any required images, zip the whole thing, submit! Got it!
How do you feel about "work-in-progress" styles? Say I have a style where I have only modified the postbit and threadbit, but want some feedback before I continue the development?

darnoldy 3rd May 2005, 10:15 PM Also, would you be willing to turn on threaded and hybrid modes here, so we can see how the styles work in them?Opps, just discovered that they are on--my bad.
Floris 3rd May 2005, 11:58 PM Styles that are not ready yet shouldn't be placed on a demo - it would mean too much work for me to import a new .xml at each change. But you're free to start a discussion on this web site regarding your style and ask for feedback. Once its ready you can submit it and than I'll set it up here :)
darnoldy 4th May 2005, 08:13 AM Styles that are not ready yet shouldn't be placed on a demo - it would mean too much work for me to import a new .xml at each changeI understand. Its why I thought I should ask first <G>.

I just set up a new forum on this web site where such styles-in-development can be discussed with others to improve it, bug fix it or get multiple users to help out devel it.

MGM 5th May 2005, 12:45 PM I think the above two forums would be great for this site. A place to discuss XHTML/HTML and CSS would be awesome, since we could help each other out with coding issues and showcase code that would make a job easier (ie: mouseover images).
An image forum dedicated to graphic design (through Photoshop or otherwise) would also be great. This way, we can help each other achieve effects other forums have done through Photoshop first, before slicing and getting the images coded.
I think the above two would be worthwhile to have on the site in the long run :)
MGM out
TruthElixirX 5th May 2005, 05:02 PM Sounds liek a good idea to me. I have some questions and things I'd like to get help on.
Floris 5th May 2005, 05:17 PM I think all those fit here: http://www.vbulletin-style.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55 :) Feel free to make new topics!
Floris 1st July 2005, 10:45 PM If anybody has any other forum requests for this site feel free to start a new thread in the site feedback forum :)
