View Full Version : [Tweak - RC2] Navbar Greeting Change
omgli3k 14th January 2004, 12:08 AM This changes the 'Welcome, $bbuserinfo[username]' message in your navbar to a greeting based on time of day. (Based on military time) It changes to:
From 0-11: 'Good Morning, $bbuserinfo[username]'
From 12-8: 'Good Afternoon, $bbuserinfo[username]'
From 8-11: 'Good Evening, $bbuserinfo[username]'
Small tweak, but nifty. :)
Edit: tweaked so it can work with all timezones. (thanks 4 help, Stefan)
Edit: Updated to use phrases, easier translation.
Edit: Updated (thx floris) to use a vboption for the server offset. Now all you have to add is the templates, don't need to change squat.
Daniel C 14th January 2004, 12:24 AM Nice mod! Thanks :D
omgli3k 14th January 2004, 04:42 AM Updated it, so it works on a time schedule user based, not server based. Thanks Stefan for helping me.
jluerken 14th January 2004, 10:41 AM One additional question. I will run the board in english and german. This modification is in english only.
How can I create the needed phrases for other languages? Can you give me a short instruction?

As soon as I get home I'll 100% incorporate it into the phrase manager.
ReDuX 14th January 2004, 07:16 PM sounds like a nice simple feature :)

M@rkus 15th January 2004, 04:40 PM Great Mod! Works very good!
scottct1 18th January 2004, 12:51 AM This is not working for me...
I am in the US Eastern Time Zone which is -5 I put in -5 and it always tells me GOOD MORNING no matter what time of the day it is.
What should I put in for the time zone?
(BTW the server is also in the Eastern Time Zone)
HiDeo 18th January 2004, 01:36 AM Really good hack
Thanks man
omgli3k 18th January 2004, 01:41 AM I'm looking into this, scott. I'll fix it ASAP.
scottct1 18th January 2004, 01:46 AM Kyle I just changed it from -5 to just 5 and it seems to be working correctly now.
Weird. but it works. :D
omgli3k 18th January 2004, 09:41 PM But thats a whole different timezone.. :o
Floris 18th January 2004, 09:46 PM Very nice tweak :)
But you could have used $vboptions[timeoffset] to get the time offset, since it is already set in the admin control panel :) This works in the navbar, I just checked.
Can't wait for the update, so I can include this on vbulletin.nl :)
omgli3k 18th January 2004, 10:00 PM Updated, see first post, last edit. :)
omgli3k 18th January 2004, 10:42 PM Scott, I fixed the error you were getting. Everything working perfectly now, removed two lines of code, changed a bit. Updated the .txt in firstpost.
Floris 18th January 2004, 10:47 PM Thank you for keeping this up to date :)

CaptChill 20th January 2004, 04:19 AM I just read your link on downloading and it answered my previous post....sorry
CaptChill 20th January 2004, 07:57 AM Very Nice, Thanks Kyle
I installed the hack and it works great. I made one change. Instead of it saying 'good morning, USERNAME' it says 'good morning, 'FIRST NAME' by changing the $bbuserinfo[username] to $bbuserinfo[field15]
[field15] being the custom profile field for First Name, of course
deathemperor 25th January 2004, 03:29 PM simple but very useful hack.

Sounds super duper! I was just noticing yesterday how it greeted me here, and I said "Hey, that's nifty. I wonder ow Folirnator did that..."
Mucho Gracias!
