View Full Version : vB3 Sidebar Navigation
TheAnt 16th November 2003, 05:11 PM I wrote this simple template mod for vB3.0.0 beta 7 just minutes ago. It adds a sidebar to the right-hand side of your forumhome template. You can customize this sidebar however you wishs.
It cannot be re-released without my explicit permission.

Daniel C 16th November 2003, 05:12 PM Nice template mod :D
TheAnt 16th November 2003, 05:19 PM You can expect quite a few template mods from me. I can't do PHP to save my life, but HTML I'm real good at.
Hiall 16th November 2003, 07:21 PM vewy nice
Neeto 16th November 2003, 09:28 PM Cool. Glad to hear you're open to sharing.
Floris 16th November 2003, 09:57 PM Hi there, very nice work. There are quite some users who'd like this. Very nice of you to share this work of yours with us. And can't wait to see you release more :)
insanctus 16th November 2003, 10:00 PM Not bad, but I think it should be droped down to be uniform with the rest of tables IMO but still usefull to many I believe.
TheAnt 16th November 2003, 10:39 PM I've just seen how it's not totally aligned, and the readme says to wait for gold for an updated version.

I guess it can only get better in time :)
TheAnt 17th November 2003, 02:39 AM I'm thinking of doing something really big and making my forum look like an actual site, with two sidebars and the main table.

Doesn't anybody have that idea? :D

whats the point of two sidebars on a forum though? a forum does put out enough information to make two sidebars a reasonable thing to have, just makes no sense.
like this mod good job
Mephisteus 30th November 2003, 10:58 PM hmm, I might be able to use this one later on, gj TheAnt
Floris 1st December 2003, 12:04 AM There are enough forums with additional information. One side could cover banners, buttons, links and other static stuff, which requires attention. And the other could be used for login, custom info, etc.
Daniel P 1st December 2003, 01:12 AM Two sidebars would free up the main part of a forum you know...
Codeman05 4th December 2003, 10:50 AM Great hack!
I'd like to have the sidebar also show up when viewing the forums (all the threads in a forum). What template would that be?? Or is that even possible?
Thanks!
kennethj 4th December 2003, 11:36 AM its' the showthread templet and yes it is possable:
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums uses them - looks like its in the header and footer though and is on all the pages- just a guess.
on a 800x screen with the default post bit, moderator colum its cramed i think -
need the well - right now preview post bit for vB3 for it to look good - and trash the mod col...
I changed mine to this style and i like it - and it would let the sidbar replace the col for the user information . . . Link to a random Joke-post-> http://sdcbb.com/showthread.php?t=78
LeeCHeSSS 4th December 2003, 11:45 AM It's SO much easier to add a side column if you do NOT use tables for layout...

Great thanks for the info
Codeman05 5th December 2003, 12:29 AM ok actually I guess that wasn't what I was looking for, or I'm blind lol
SHOWTHREAD lets me put the navbar in the actual threads...so if you want to view a thread, the bar is on the right. Which is fine, needed that anyway.
But the template I'm looking for is the one in which...
Say on this board, if you click on Template Modifications...it lists all the threads in the forum. If I wanted to have the sidebar there, what template is that
TheAnt 7th December 2003, 04:20 PM This works with gamma.
And I do not know what template you are looking for, as I am still getting used to vB.

But if you want it on every page, you should add it to the footer, at the top. And then it should work right (someone correct me if I am wrong), and load on every page.
kcradio 7th December 2003, 10:31 PM <!-- /timezone -->
This is not found in the FOURMHOME template. I even checked the default, but not seeing it. Am I doing something wrong, or is there another marker I can use to know where to place the info?
Codeman05 8th December 2003, 09:07 AM Thats the FORUMDISPLAY template ;)

Yea that didn't quite work ;)

Apoco 8th December 2003, 05:40 PM Nice job, it would be cool if you added the collapse ability for both vertical and horizontal collapsing. :)
